10:30 to 11:00 Solo Performance Art presentation by Sharmila Nezovic
Sharmila Nezovic is a Brisbane-based abstract painter in oils & mixed media. She is also a live art performance artist and, a long-term practitioner of Siddha Yoga (traditional Eastern chanting & meditation). Her creative inspiration comes from a pre-occupation with the urban experience. She says, “Making art is about challenging oneself to interpret life’s experiences into other dimensions. Painting works with the excitement of compression of ideas into 2-dimensional layering on a flat surface; while performance work is about communicating in time & space, that is, 3-dimensionally”. Her passion is to find universal meaning via an ongoing exploration of the deeply personal. This is her way of delving into the spiritual plane. For her, using gestural or organic overlays, superimposed onto or within structured designs which have been selected & captured from our built environment, is filled with tension & excitement. She is also intensely interested in finding ways that value the fleetingness of the present moment.
Sharmila holds a Master of Creative Arts Degree (MCA) from JCU.
Metamorphosis is specifically being developed for this one-off event. It aims to present some similarities between art & therapy, along with the polarities which exist at the extremities of both, such as before and after a symbolic or transformative experience.
